Comprehensive Eye Exams

It’s about more than just blurry vision.

At Aurora Eyecare, we believe that an eye exam is more than just checking your vision—it’s an essential part of your overall health and wellness.

During your visit, we assess not only how well you see, but how your eyes are functioning and whether there are any early signs of eye disease or systemic health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, or even neurological disorders.

In addition to assessing your visual acuity, your eye care provider will test for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes are functioning together, and more.

Don’t put it off — schedule your comprehensive eye exam at Aurora Eyecare today.

What does a comprehensive eye exam include?

Most comprehensive eye exams include the following:

  • Visual acuity – Tests the clarity of your vision
  • Autorefraction – Objectively estimates your eyeglass prescription
  • Subjective refraction – Determines your precise eyeglass prescription
  • Slit lamp exam – Evaluates your eyes for cataracts, corneal issues, and more
  • Advanced retinal photo screenings – tests for glaucoma, macular degeneration & diabetic retinopathy
  • Tonometry – Measures intraocular pressure to screen for glaucoma
  • Ophthalmoscopy to examine the optic nerve, retina, and blood vessels

We use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to go beyond the basics:

  • Optos California Optomap® Ultra-Widefield Imaging – Captures a 200° digital view of your retina in a single shot, often without dilation
  • Maestro 2 OCT with Widefield Retinal Imaging – Provides high-definition cross-sectional views of the retina and optic nerve for early detection of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease
  • Oculus Keratograph 5M – Performs detailed corneal topography and dry eye analysis, helping us diagnose and manage complex cases of corneal disease, dry eye and contact lens fitting

These tools help us detect issues earlier and manage them more effectively, ensuring your vision stays sharp and your eyes stay healthy.

How often should I get a comprehensive eye exam?

Most eye care professionals recommend yearly eye exams. But it depends on your age, risk factors, and whether or not you wear corrective lenses.

The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends children have their eyes examined at 6 months old, three years old, at the start of school, and every two years until age 18.

For adults, the AOA recommends a comprehensive eye exam every two years for ages 18 to 60 at minimum and annual exams for seniors age 61 and older.

What about contact lens exams?

A contact lens fitting is a separate service and typically not included in a standard eye exam. If you’re interested in contact lenses, just let us know when you book—we’ll schedule the additional

evaluation you need for the perfect fit and lens type.

Make healthy vision a priority in your life and in the lives of the ones you love. Schedule a comprehensive eye exam at Aurora Eyecare now.
